The Internationalisation of Commercial Activities in Canada
by J. Simmons and S. Kamikihara
1999-07
This is the story of foreing retailers operating in Canada. While these firms are relatively few in number they account for a substantial share of Canada’s retail activity and, it will be argued, have had a disproportionate influence on the distribution system in this country - and perhaps internationally. For most U.S. retailers, Canada provides the first international experience. Foreign retailers have brought to Canada new retail forms, such as the supermarket, the ‘five and dime’ store, the discount department store, the big box stores, and European designer boutiques, as well as the intense competition typified by Wal-Mart. |
